Caitlyn Jenner: Arthur Ashe Courage Award for Gender Dysphoria but…

To explain Caitlyn Jenner’s courageous struggle, we must discuss how Jenner managed both gender dysphoria and dyslexia.  It is the interaction between both which heightened Jenner’s desire to withdraw, hide, and seek isolation.  He was so isolated that he never trained with a coach for the Olympics.  Gender dysphoria and dyslexia cause similar responses, resulting from feelings of stress and anxiety.  Imagine how Jenner must have felt!

Understanding that the struggle was a dual struggle explains the totality of Jenner’s courage.

At the presentation of the Arthur Ashe Award to Caitlyn Jenner, they failed to mention dyslexia and missed the opportunity to include that after winning the Olympic Gold Medal Bruce Jenner joined the list of gifted dyslexics including: Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg and Albert Einstein.   As a result, the explanation for giving the award to Jenner was weak.  Talking about dyslexia would have elicited more public empathy for her.  Jenner in her acceptance speech said, “Never too late to be who you truly are.”  She also emphasized the need to accept people as they are.

Finally, the Right Fit gender identity! Jenner will serve as a role model not only for the transgender community, but also for everyone who is struggling to become who they want to be.
