Are Search Firms Presenting You as A Comparison Candidate?


Whether you are employed or unemployed, you may not be aware of the “comparison phenomenon” which can prevent you from capturing the right job or getting a promotion. If you are unemployed and presented frequently by large firms like Korn Ferry who introduces many candidates to their clients, ask yourself whether you are the Right Fit or a comparison candidate. I have worked with candidates who are unemployed for a year or more who spend their time on interviews for jobs that they will never get. Wake up! Stop wasting your time. It is time to evaluate your brand, which includes how you present yourself on your resume, social media, etc. and how you communicate verbally at interviews. Three Job Interviews with the Same Employer: No Offer! WHY?

You did not convince the employer on the first in person interview that you are the ONE Right Fit. If you had done this, you would have received an offer after the prescribed number of interviews. It is not easy to close the employer fast, but my candidates learn to do this. When I conduct a retained search, I present ONE candidate and close the search. When I work with candidates as their career consultant and strategist, I teach them how to implement my Right Fit Method so that they can close the employer on the first in person interview.

Employers are accustomed to searching for thebestnot theRight Fit”. If you are asking what’s the difference, that further explains your difficulty in capturing the Right Fit job. . When employers search for the best, they compare and contrast candidates and select one believing the person will work out, because they are the best.

Using the Standard of Best to make decisions leads to making erroneous assumptions. If all the candidates that the employer interviewed are the wrong fit and they pick one, they selected the Wrong Fit. Why did you return for three or more interviews for the same job? You were a comparison candidate.

Eliminate Employer Objections to Hiring YOU!

Can you imagine a candidate walking into an interview with sunglasses perched on top of her head? I can! That candidate was my candidate. She is a CPA who I sent out on an interview with my client-employer.
Barro global search, Inc. which I founded in 2003 is accustomed to presenting ONE Right Fit candidate and closing the search. We are meticulous in prepping our candidates. Who would think to tell the candidate to be sure not to perch her sunglasses on top of her head. What do you think happened? My client-employer was so upset that the candidate wore her sunglasses throughout the interview he just deleted her from his mind.
When I spoke with my candidate she was clueless. I told her that I would send her to another client-employer, if she promised me that the sunglasses would not be an issue. Good news! I sent her out again and she closed on the first in person interview.
Employees identify a wide array of objections and distractions to justify not to interview candidates as well as not hiring them. Look at your resume through the employers’ eyes and figure out what concerns they could have. Visualize yourself at the first in person interview and do the same.

Start 2016 With a Strong Brand to Ignite Your Career!

Does your Resume Have the Right Fit Brand?


Dr. Arlene creates unique Right Fit Professional Brands. Right Fit for whom? The employer! Very few resumes have brands. It is up to you to define and describe your brand, so that the employer can digest it in seconds. If employers can not identify your brand in seconds they’re going to discard it. If you have the Right Fit Brand on your resume, then you are ready to broadcast that brand at your first interview. Your goal is to present a brand that matches the job for which the employer is ready to hire. 

Are you a Fiat, Mercedes, or Ferrari? To sell yourself, you need a brand just like these cars. We are now in the last quarter of the year. Change is fast and furious. Some employees are hired and others are fired. Some businesses open and others close. Companies merge creating an opportunity for downsizing.

Will you be hired, fired, or promoted by 2013?

It’s the season for firing, promoting, and hiring. If you think that your job is secure, think again. By the end of the year someone else could be sitting in your chair. 

What are you going to do to influence decisions about YOU?

If you are either employed or unemployed and searching for a new position, you should:
• accelerate your search targeting early to mid-January to start your new position. Do not allow the upcoming holiday season to distract you from forging ahead.

• evaluate your resume to determine whether you have a distinct, intriguing, and recognizable brand to attract the employers’ attention in a 30 second glance.

• assess your communication skills, including your ability to read between the lines, when speaking with employers and convincing employers to hire you. 
If you are employed, you should:

• not walk away from your job unless you have another position – goodbye packages do not last forever. Do not assume that you will capture the right fit job quickly.

• write a report detailing your accomplishments, not what you do. Focus on impact, results, and achievements for 2012. Submit that report as soon as possible to the person to whom you report and other key decision-makers. This report could help you retain your position as well as set the stage for a promotion.

• arrange a time to discuss your 2012 achievements with the person to whom you report. It’s very important to walk that person through the report and hear feedback on your performance. 
To succeed in capturing a job, you need a distinct, intriguing, and recognizable brand.

I love to watch the building of name brands. I first met Alexandre Renoir, the great grandson of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, more than a year ago at a Beverly Hills art gallery on Rodeo Drive. This was a big night for Alex. A grand opening -- his paintings were on display in a gallery with a global presence. The guests surrounded Alex, who was dressed in a short-sleeve Hawaiian style brightly-colored flowered shirt. 
 

On Saturday, October 12th, I met Alex again at the same gallery. I immediately told him how wonderful he looked. He had dropped between 30 or 40 pounds and was stylishly dressed in a suit. I saw a transformation both in how he looked and how he painted. The prices on the paintings had escalated dramatically, reflecting the caliber of his recent work. 
 

As a child, Alex hated the fact that he had a famous last name. He grew up surrounded with constant reminders of “the Renoir”, including a bookcase which contained 500 books about his great grandfather. Instead of using his brand name to his advantage, he wanted to escape from it. Six years ago, after having many jobs, Alex decided to devote himself to painting. Alexandre Renoir is 38 years old. Finally, he separated himself from his great grandfather and found his own brand. 
 
 
It’s rare to be born with a brand name, especially a mega brand name like Renoir. But, you must have a brand, not necessarily a name brand.
 
 
To succeed in capturing a job, you need a distinct, intriguing, and recognizable brand.
